Diplomas - Bringing your learning to Life

The Government has introduced a new set of qualifications called Diplomas. Following a rigorous selection procedure the Kingswood Partnership has been chosen to deliver these qualifications - thereby providing students in the Kingswood area with an additional alternative to the existing courses on offer. Diplomas are new qualifications which will give young people a fully-rounded education. They will provide an insight into the world of work whilst developing the skills, knowledge and understanding needed to support career decisions.

Diplomas provide alternatives to the subject based learning offered by the more traditional GSCEs and A levels in both subject matter and learning style. This will ensure that all young people are given the opportunity to engage with learning experiences that are right for them, and take them where they want to go. Diplomas provide flexibility and choice for all learners, through a combination of theoretical and practical styles of learning focussed on subjects and skills relating to work. They have been developed in collaboration with employers and universities to ensure their relevance, and will be valued by them. Their combination of essential skills and relevant experience will provide an excellent grounding for further or higher education or skilled employment.

Diplomas are designed to provide young people with:

  • a stimulating and challenging learning experience
  • a combination of essential skills and knowledge, both general and specific
  • opportunities to experience different styles of learning in different environments, with an emphasis on a hands on, learning by doing approach
  • continued study in English, Maths and ICT while developing skills such as communication and project management that employers really value
  • opportunities to experience different areas of work and firm up career objectives
  • an insight into what work is really like taught by people with relevant industry knowledge
  • an education that prepares them for work and further study at a higher level
  • a high-quality qualification that promotes the skills of teamwork, creative thinking and problem solving which are valued by employers, universities and colleges
